Do you have to have a screw loose to head out on an adventure on a trail version of a moped? Maybe, but what better way of tightening up that screw!

Alaskan Adventure on a Honda Trail Bike

I love people doing stupid stuff. Not stupid in a 'you dumbass' kind of way but stupid in that you really have to think a certain way to find that what they are doing makes any sense whatsoever. In other words, you're finding a kindred spirit.

Once, many moons ago, I spent five days riding a scooter in company with five friends, also on scooters, from Johannesburg to Mozambique. The distance is only 550km (around 340 miles) but our top speed was never more than 80km/h and that was downhill with a following wind, which didn't happen often. Add in the fact that there was a downpour of biblical proportions that lasted the whole way and you can see why, when we recounted the tale upon our return, some people looked at us as if we were mad. Yes we were, but in a good way.

And it's the same with the guys in this video who choose to ride from Anchorage in Alaska up to Prudhoe Bay and on to the northernmost point of North America, Utqiagvik - 1000 miles - on two very small Honda Trail bikes - one brand new and one from 1975.

I totally get why they did it: because they can! Of course it would have been easier on a BMW GS or KTM but where is the fun in that? The prize is not the destination but the journey. Imagine how many stories these two will have to keep them warm in their old age!

If this video does nothing else, it will inspire you to get off your backside, dust down that moped that's been sitting at the back of the woodshed for fifteen years and head out on an adventure and who cares if you're mad to be doing it.
