Indian Motorcycle steers its Scout platform into decidedly darker territory with the new Rogue and Rogue Sixty models. Not so much because of the blackout treatment, but because of what I'm going to call a West Coast clubber's bike. No matter if you call it a club or gangstah, the look remains the same and these two bikes start out well down the custom-club path. Plus, they come with plenty of accessories that let you make your own mark and set it even further apart from its ilk. Just think of this pair as Scouts with street cred, or as the factory terms it, a “rogue spirit.”

2022 Indian Scout Rogue & Rogue Sixty Design
Essentially, this pair has more in common with the rest of the Scout and Scout Sixty range than not, but it's the little differences that make all the difference. Well, I suppose the front wheel is sort of the opposite of little. It rocks a 19-inch rim with low-profile tires to give it some definite blackout-gangster attitude.
The cut-down front fender accentuates the large front wheel with its minimal dimensions to further reinforce the look, but it's the bullet fairing that the factory calls a “quarter fairing” that really sets the tone. Like a crown jewel up top, mini-ape bars lift your hamburger shovels above the glass to complete the ensemble.
A chopped-down rear fender finishes the model-specific yummygoodness, and the stock models come with a solo, sport-style seat, so you'll have to wad up your jacket, or go out of pocket for a pillion pad if you like to share the fun with a friend.
One small difference between the two, other than engine size of course, it looks like the Rogue rocks bar-end mirrors while its little brother comes with a more standard mirror setup.
2022 Indian Scout Rogue & Rogue Sixty Chassis
The Scout chassis doesn't disappoint on the Rogue siblings with a steel frame and swingarm. Using the engine as a stressed member reduces frame mass and refined geometry gives the Scout frame stability at speed and an eagerness in the corners that's sure to please.
Metzeler Cruisetec hoops line the cast wheels that sport a 16-incher out back for a nice visual offset with the 19-inch front wheel. Much of the rest remains the same with the classic lines and layed-over rear shock that mimics the lines of the old rigid rear ends to add to the home-built aesthetic.

2022 Indian Scout Rogue & Rogue Sixty Drivetrain
The drivetrains are likewise unchanged from the rest of the Scout family which means you still get good roll-on once you are up into the powerband. The Scout Rogue can really be a thrill when you grab a fistful and try to twist it off.
Liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twins power the range that has the Rogue Sixty at the bottom of the totem pole with its 78-horsepower, 999 cc plant, and five-speed transmixxer. At the top is the 1,133 cc V-twin with a 100-pony output and a six-speed tranny.

2022 Indian Scout Rogue & Rogue Sixty Competitors
Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight
Indian is going to come up head-to-head against Harley-Davidson, no doubt about it, but I don't think the New Sportster S is a good fit. So, in the interest of fairness, I grabbed Harley's only remaining model with the old, air-cooled, 1,200 cc drivetrain, the Sportster Forty-Eight.
The H-D relies on a five-speed transmission versus six with the Scout Rogue, and as for grunt, the Scout and Sportster are neck-and-neck at 72 pound-feet and 73 pound-feet of torque, respectively. That extra gear on the Scout Rogue will feel real nice on the superslab.
H-D follows the same playbook in pricing with a Vivid Black, non-ABS model for $11,799. ABS will set you back another $819, and the color options roll for $12,199 to leave the Rogue and Forty-Eight fairly equal at the checkout as well.

He Said
“If the new Sportster direction isn't your thing, and you don't like the single, 1,200 cc offering, it has never been a better time to jump ship and give America's oldest brand a shot. Also, I got to give Indian its props for capturing the essence of that clubber look.”
She Said
My wife and fellow motorcycle writer, Allyn Hinton, says, “I've had some issues with the Scouts in the past – not big ones, just things – but I really like the look of these Scout Rogues. The name itself lends a sinister air to the bad-buy look. Proven performance from the Scout stable sets the stage for the Rogues in a positive way.”
