23rd Annual Amerivespa Rally Kicks Off On June 11 In Indianapolis
Amerivespa is considered the United States’ largest gathering of scooter riders. It’s kind of like the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for scooters. It’s also a big deal for scooter riders in the country since this year will be the 23rd instalment of the event.
Three of the biggest scooter clubs in the US - the Indy Scooter Club, The North American Scooter Racing Association and the Vespa Club of America - will play the role of hosts for this year’s rally, which will take place in Indianapolis.
It might sound weird to host a scooter rally in the home of the Indy 500, but that’s how big the scooter market has become, not just in America, but in the entire world. Anytime you can get all of them to come to the Racing Capital of the World, you know they mean business.
Amerivespa 2015 will play host to thousands of scooter riders from all over the world. That’s a big reason why the four-day rally is packed with events from the first day - Thursday, June 11, 2015 - all the way to the last, Sunday, June 14, 2015.
The event even kicks off with a scenic ride through the hills of southern Indiana where participants will get a chance to mingle with their fellow scooter riders throughout the ride. In addition to the joyride, the festival will also feature plenty of lap runs, parties, scooter gymkhana competitions, and even an appearance in the Indiana Pride Parade.
Who said that Amerivespa isn’t lacking in fun and good times? For those attending the festival, it’s probably the only time in the year wherein they can let loose with their scooters and enjoy the company of their fellow “scooterheads.”

Why it matters
If Harley-Davidson riders can have the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, there’s no reason why scooter riders can’t have their own annual festival. That’s what Amerivespa is all about and it’s a beautiful thing. To be honest, I’m not going to attend the event because a) Indy’s a long way from where I live and b) I don’t really own a scooter.
That said, I’m an equal-opportunity supporter of anything on two wheels, scooters included. If scooter riders from all over the country, nay, the world, want to have their own event where they can share their passions with the brethren, then so be it. More power to them!
From the looks of things, Amerivespa 2015 has the makings of a fantastic festival. It’s got so many events already scheduled that even if I was going, it would be difficult to keep track of everything that would be going on in those four days. But since I’m not planning to attend, I’ll leave that problem to those who will as I’m pretty sure that they’re going to have a great time anyway.
