A couple of weeks back, we learned that Harley has begun registering new names as part of their new strategy to add 100 new models in the coming decade. Harley-Davidson has already introduced 10 new ones this year: nine new Softails and the Street Rod.

With 90 more to come, the job of giving them names also becomes a big part of their appeal. No one wants to buy a Harley Davidson named "Fluffy." New information tells us that Harley has gone ahead and registered two new names for their new motorcycle models: '48X' and 'Pan America'

These two new names, however, have been registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Spain. Not to worry though. There is no way HD will not have them here in America, their own backyard.

Harley generally launches a couple of new models in February/March and then a major batch of new models in August/September each year. It won't be wrong to expect a new Sportster and a Touring model this year by the Milwaukee brand.

Going by the names, the '48X' might be the special edition of Harley's Forty-Eight, the Sportster model. It will have better equipment and/or a bigger engine specification. This along with the 'Bronx' can possibly give the Sportster range a highly needed upgrade.

The 'Pan America,' on the other hand, could be a new Touring model, a bagger or a dresser that will either join the Glides' or create a unique range in itself.

If we have to believe a few sources, the trademark applications are still subject to approval. If and when they get approved, HD has 36 months to use it or will be forced to lose the name. Keeping this timeframe, we might get to see a new ’Harley-Davidson 48X’ or a 'Harley-Davidson Pan America' sometime towards the end of 2018.

Harley-Davidson has already trademarked the names “Bronx” and “Harley-Davidson Bronx” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Both are registered with the intent for use on “motorcycles and structural parts therefor.”

Since the name ’Bronx’ has a tough, urban vibe to it, we can speculate Harley Davidson to give ’Bronx’ to the Sportster range, one that certainly needs a slew of updates now. It might as well replace the entire range even, just like how the V-Rod was dropped this year.
