Adding to its electric stable, Alta Motors unveils the Street Tracker, a sibling to its Redshift lineup. Alta Motors is another of these bike companies that sprang from the riding enthusiasm between a couple of friends, namely Jeff Sand and Derek Dorresteyn. It's also another of these bike builders who recognize the need to protect the environment, though they try to play the performance card and say they're really just after the power and flat torque curve associated with electric->ke3364-drive vehicles. Sure man, whatever you say.

Street Tracker

Seriously though, the rides coming out of the Brisbane, California factory are looking pretty good, and if I had to compare them (and I will, eventually) I'd say they are closely similar to the Zero FX off-road ride, and supermoto-type FXS. The newest ride is the “Street Tracker,” a variation on the Redshift Supermoto that looks like it will make a dandy hooligan bike for urban jackassery and general shenaniganery.

Packing 40 ponies and a soul-crushing 120 pound-feet of torque, the battery-powered electric motor drives these bikes for as far as 50 miles between recharges. Not terribly impressive, but these aren't tour bikes->ke2669, nor are they commuters->ke5324 in the traditional sense, so I can't exactly examine them through the same lens as some of the other types of rides, but examine them I will in the coming week with a full review and all the pertinent details you will need to evaluate these homegrown EVs.
