For the ninth year running, the Quail Lodge and Golf Club will host “The Quail Motorcycle Gathering” at its Carmel Valley, California resort. This relatively new bike show has quickly made a name for itself as quite possibly the largest antique bike show in the U.S., and I do mean antique with many entries breaking the century-old mark. Of course, car enthusiasts will recognize this venue as the site of “The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering” that showcases historical four-wheel vehicles, so you can expect that the hosts know a thing or two about holding top-shelf events with antique machines. In addition to all the machinery and contact with other bike-type people, attendees can look forward to a Barbecue lunch and imbibable libations from a host of local beer and wine makers. If standing around just looking at bikes all day ain’t your thing, the Quail Ride — a 100-mile course through California’s Monterey Peninsula — takes place the day before on May 5th, then Cycle World magazine will be hosting a 50-mile jaunt on the morning of the actual show. So yeah, there will be something for everyone.
