The Whole Family
R18 B and R18 Transcontinental joins the R18 and R18 Classic

It was obvious that BMW had more in mind for its new-for-2020 model, the R18 cruiser, than simply being just that: a cruiser. And so it has come to pass, with the launch of the R18 B and the R18 Transcontinental. With these two models, BMW is making no bones about its continued assault on Harley Davidson’s stranglehold on the American touring-cruiser market.

Large fairing and hard saddlebags.

Both models get a huge front fairing and hard saddlebags while the R18 Transcontinental adds a top box to that recipe. It’s all very Germanic and efficient while being unashamedly American at the same time.

Big but beautiful
Retains the classic good looks of the original

The two huge cylinders protruding from either side of the crankcases mean that forward controls can’t be fitted, so riders will have to make do with mid-mounted foot pegs and controls.

Other big changes over the standard R18 are a complete set of four analogue instruments, replacing the single clock on the original. Not only that, but both models get the 10.25 in. TFT display seen recently on both the R1250 RT and the CE.04 electric scooter. The new models also get adaptive cruise control, controlled by a radar sensor in the front of the fairing. The standard-for-the-class sound system is branded with the Marshall amplifiers logo.

The only other differences between the two models are a slightly narrower seat and lower screen for the R18 B.

Prices have been announced as $21,495 for the R18 B and $24,995 for the R18 Transcontinental. Expect them in your local BMW dealer in August.
