BMW’s iconic “M” moniker, exclusive to its performance offerings, was first introduced in 1972, meaning this year marks its golden jubilee. This calls for a celebration and doing exactly that, the German giant has taken the wraps off a mind-blowing special edition of its flagship sportbike, dubbed the M 1000 RR 50 Years M edition.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR 50 Years M Edition

The most distinctive aspect of the special M 1000 RR is the special Sao Paulo Yellow livery. In layman terms, this wraps the motorcycle in an eye-catching (extremely) neon greenish color, additionally with special 50th-year anniversary M badging. The special livery could be a bit over the top for some people, but there perhaps isn't a better way to mark this momentous occasion and milestone for the revered M Division.

Livery aside, the M 1000 RR 50 years M also brings with it:

- M GPS Lap Timer trigger software

- Rear seat cover and passenger kit

- M Carbon Package (Carbon front and rear fenders, upper fairing side panels, left and right carbon tank covers, carbon chain guard, and sprocket cover)

- M Billet Pack – (Billet aluminum engine protectors, folding brake and clutch levers, M rider’s rear sets, front brake lever guard)

- Clear anodized swingarm

- M Endurance chain

Apart from these, everything else has been carried forward from the “standard” M 1000 RR.

In case you’re wondering why we’re quoting “standard,” that’s because the non-anniversary M 1000 RR by itself is a top-spec variant of the S 1000 RR and already comes laden with stuff like carbon-fiber wings, carbon wheels, and full titanium Akrapovic exhaust system in addition to other high-performance parts over the S 1000 RR.}

At the heart, the M 1000 RR draws power from a 999cc, inline-four engine pumping out 205 horsepower and 83 pound-feet. What makes the engine so special is BMW’s signature ShiftCam technology, which basically spreads the power throughout the rev range, ensuring every ounce of it is properly used up. All this juice, coupled with the bike’s fairly low curb weight of 423 pounds, makes the M 1000 RR nothing short of a missile.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR 50 Years M Edition - Pricing & Availability

The BMW M 1000 RR 50 Years M Edition is priced at $36,995, $4,500 more than the base-spec M 1000 RR. Considering the extra kit and bragging rights you’ll get with the bike, we say this one is a no-brainer.

Of course, only if you’re okay with being spotted from a mile away.
