BMW has pinned its electric colours to the ever growing mast of manufacturers heading in the same direction. But the news is not necessarily all bad for lovers of the internal combustion engine.

BMW Will Adopt Electric For Urban Mobility by 2025

BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle arm of the company, has announced that, by 2025, all of its 'urban mobility' motorbikes will be fully electric by 2025. This move incorporates all its scooters and lightweight models.

The announcement comes as no surprise as the automotive group has already announced it will drastically cut the production of internal combustion engines in the coming years.

From 2030, BMW says it will be switching both two and four wheeled vehicles to electricity, including the Mini and Rolls Royce models.

It's not all bad news for ICE lovers, however. Insiders at BMW have said that electrification does not necessarily extend to flagship models in the two-wheel line-up - the S1000RR/XR/R, the R1250 range, K1600 range, R18 range, and so on. For those models, conversion to run on synthetic fuels is not entirely off the agenda just yet.

But models such as the C400GT and C400X will switch to battery power, if they are not completely replaced by the CE 04.

The BMW group is looking to double electric vehicle output - two- and four-wheel - in 2022 over 2021 figures, with the aim of having 2 million electrified/hybrid models and a further 2 million all-electric vehicles on the road by 2023.

It is important to note that those figures are not solely motorcycles, but expect two-wheelers to make up a significant chunk of those totals.
