Once every two years, BMW organizes the International GS Trophy where teams from all around the world battle it out in intensive daily stages and numerous special challenges and experience the tour of their lives. This year, the GS Trophy is going to Mongolia from 3 to 10 June 2018, and the teams will ride on 114 units of the BMW R 1200 GS Rallye motorcycles prepped by the folks at BMW.

The R 1200 GS Rallye will get adventure kitted with equipment from the Original BMW Motorrad Accessories catalog allowing the adventure-thirsty riders to take on the challenge without having to worry about the capabilities of the already primed R 1200 GS.

The BMW GS->ke3647 adventure series of motorcycles have become quite a reminiscent name in the segment of premium enduro bikes in the country, and they are the bestselling range of motorcycles for the Bavarian company.

The GS Trophy challenges that very notion and showcases the world the extent of such a potent machine. Men and women have already trodden the terrains of Tunisia, South Africa, Patagonia, Canada, and Thailand. This time, they head to Mongolia after passing the hard qualifier held in advance.

The Trophy challenge will have the teams take their GS over a broken bridge, drive through deep sand, and heave it over stony river beds and tree trunks. Furthermore, there are navigation exercises with GPS, quiz questions about the GS and technical challenges, such as tire change under time pressure and more.

The R 1200 GS Rallye motorcycle is the top-of-the-line R 1200 GS that gets accessorized to become the sportiest GS of them all. Enhancing the true off-road characteristics of the bike, the Rallye edition comes with Lupin Blue metallic paint finish that has the frame colored with Cordoba Blue and the powertrain with black. The cross-spoke wheels get Metzeler Karoo 3 off-road tires, and the suspension is set to be the sportiest. The radiator, handlebar grips, and the frame gets guard protectors to protect the components from unwanted scrape marks.

For the GS Trophy, BMW adds more equipment from their accessory catalog to push the limits of performance and protection for the bike. They kit the bike with adjustable rider footpegs, foot brake lever, and gear lever. The cylinder head gets a stainless steel cover guard, and the engine itself gets a crash protection bar. Below which an enduro aluminum bash plate protects the engine from the elements.

The front headlight cluster also gets a protection cover from stones thrown by the rider ahead. A new stainless steel luggage grid holds a pillion bag and a first aid kit for the teams to carry their essentials. The steel grid also allows the teams to use it as leverage to push the bike out of the obstacle.

In total, BMW Motorrad will prep 114 units of the R 1200 GS Rallye for the GS Trophy. Each team will have three riders battling it out in the vast steppes and deep canyons of Mongolia.
