Time and again it has been proved that electric/hybrid vehicles have an overwhelming advantage especially to ride within the town and this evolution has been a gradual process for some – and an exciting start for others like Campagna.

Canadian three-wheel ‘autocycle’ manufacturer, Campagna, has showcased its latest venture into a new breed of machine. Unveiled at the recently concluded Montreal Electric Vehicle Show, the Electric T-Rex prototype will be the world’s first three-wheeled production autocycle.

Jumped to fame way back in 1996, the Canadian Campagna T-Rex showcased bonkers three-wheeled trikes that ran on a 1.4-liter Kawasaki inline-four engine and two side-by-side seats. Later, a 1.6 liter BMW inline-six engine made a 160 horsepower in the T-Rex. 20 years later, Campagna has announced plans to build an electric version of its T-Rex three-wheeler.

After trying out powertrain from industry’s bigwigs like Kawasaki, BMW, and Harley-Davidson, Campagna will now source their powerplant from Zero Motorcycles including the motors, batteries, and controllers “creating a high-performance vehicle, without the need for gasoline.” With just a decade of experience in the industry, ZERO Motorcycles has been at the epitome of electrically powered machines on two wheels. Joining hands with them will be Campagna Motors. Zero provides electric powertrain to Curtiss Motorcycles too.

The prototype on display will be powered by two electric motors together producing 140 hp and 232 lb-ft of instant peak torque. Power is supplied by double 26 kWh Total batteries that will provide a maximum range of around 180-190 miles around town and around 140 miles on the highways. Top speed of this electric T-Rex will be 111 mph with 0-62 mph coming in just 3.2 seconds.

Unfortunately, that is all the information we could gather right now. Later in the year, Campagna will develop a “more advanced” prototype and a production version of the new T-rex running on electric power. Campagna will later also equip their more premium V13R trike also with the electric powertrain from ZERO.

“Our collaboration with Zero Motorcycles brings a whole new level of innovation and originality to this already exhilarating platform,” says André Morissette, president of Campagna Motors. “Zero’s electric powertrain is an ideal solution for the ultimate three-wheeled experience. This vehicle is an absolute thrill to drive.”
