As fun as gas-powered bikes are, a key requirement for them to operate is clean air which means you can’t use gas bikes in deep water (yes, we know many people have pulled this off, but it isn’t really good for the engine or easy).

So if gas bikes can’t do this, are electric bikes capable of doing so? Well, it looks like it as Texas-based bikemaker Volcon has posted a video featuring a group of its e-bikes riding through a river effortlessly.

Volcon Grunt Electric Bike Crosses River

The motorcycle shown in the video is the Volcon Grunt, a fat-tire electric motorcycle built to chart through tough terrain and even no terrain at all.

What’s interesting is that the Grunt looks fairly at ease while riding through - or should I say “in” - the river stream - the river stream}}, where a gas-powered motorcycle would require constant throttle to keep the water out of the exhaust system.

A contributing factor to this is the nature of the batteries and motors of EVs that are usually sealed shut and subjected to testing to make them weatherproof, in turn making them perfect for such scenarios.

Volcon Grunt Electric Bike Details

The Volcon Grunt is a made-in-the-USA electric bike, replete with chunky off-road tires, USD forks, and a rugged chassis, all of which make it a perfect product for exploring uncharted territories.

It is powered by a 2kWh battery which comes mated to a 25kW motor, giving it a claimed range and top speed of 75 miles (with additional battery) and 40mph, respectively. Along with this, you get three riding modes along with dedicated reverse gear.
