Dainese Names Former Ducati NA Boss Cristiano Silei As New CEO
Italian motorcycle apparel brand Dainese has announced the appointment of former Ducati North America Chief Executive Officer Christiano Silei as the company’s new CEO.
Silei, who will also be part of the company’s Board of Directors, will assume the CEO role from Federico Minoli, who vacated his chief executive seat to become the company’s chairman. The hiring of Silei shouldn’t come as a surprise for those who know the man’s extensive and successful background, which includes 20 years working for Ducati in a variety of roles including director of corporate strategy and product development, vice president of sales and marketing, and two stints spent as Ducati North America’s CEO.
Some might view this new role as a step down for Silei, even if it’s not the case. Sure, Dainese doesn’t have the same ring to it as Ducati, but the former has well and truly established itself as one of the most respected motorcycle apparel brands in the world. Having Silei as its new CEO gives the company the opportunity to tap into his extensive knowledge of the industry and create a new whole market of products geared through technology and innovation, two critical elements of any Dainese product out in the market today.
At the very least, Silei will inherit a lot of responsibilities from his predecessor, including the task of carrying Dainese to heights it has never been to before. Judging by his track record, there’s no reason to believe that Silei won’t be up to the task.

Why it matters
This doesn’t have the makings of a splashy PR hire because Cristiano Silei is one of the most well-respected executives in the motorcycle world. While I do have some minute reservations on how he can transition from leading a motorcycle manufacturer like Ducati to shifting gears and turning his attention to a motorcycle apparel brand, I’m not the only one who believes that Silei can succeed in his new role.
You don’t get to spend 20 years of your life ascending to the top of Ducati’s hierarchy without knowing a thing or two about the business. The man has an extensive and successful background in the motorcycle industry. Besides, it’s a good move for Dainese to bring in a man with Silei’s track record, especially when the company is preparing to enter a new phase of its business that includes international expansion and more product innovation.
To be fair, we’re not going to immediately see how this hiring will affect Dainese’s business. But if there’s a person qualified enough to face this new challenge and knock it straight out of the park, it’s Cristiano Silei. His track record as the former Ducati North America CEO certainly speaks for itself.
