After an absence of more than 40 years and following the success of the Grom and Monkey 125, Honda is resurrecting the Dax name for its latest mini bike.

Honda ST125 Dax Brings Back Familiar name and Design

Honda really is delving into the file marked 'nostalgia' of late, first by resurrecting the Monkey Bike (and it's 125cc cousin, the Grom) and now with the announcement that the Dax name is set to reappear after a 40-year absence.

Even if the name is not familiar, one look at the distinctive styling of the Dax will be sure to bring memories flooding back. Maybe you didn't own one but you are sure to have seen them around.

Called the ST125 Dax, the new model is powered by the same engine as found in the Grom and Monkey bike, which means a power output of around 10bhp and 8ft.lb of torque. That doesn't sound like a lot for an all-in weight of 107kg, but it is plenty enough to give the Dax lively performance. It drives through a four-speed gearbox and centrifugal clutch. Top speed is a claimed 55mph and the 3.8 litre fuel tank will tke you 150 miles.

The Dax also gets 31mm upside down forks, twin rear shocks, balloon tyres on 12-inch wheels and full LED lighting. The addition of a pillion grab rail might seem a little superfluous but Honda insists the Dax is strong enough to carry two people.

Disc brakes are fitted front and rear and will be equipped with ABS.

But it is the looks of this little stunner that will appeal to most people. The long body/short stance of the original led it to be named after the Dachshund dog breed, hence Dax. Two colours are available: “Pearl Nebula Red,” or “Pearl Cadet Grey.”
