The BMW S 1000 RR is one of the fastest bikes money can buy, but the same can also be said for the iconic Japanese hyper-tourers, the Suzuki Hayabusa and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R.

Ever wondered whether the 1000cc BMW can take on these 1300+cc heavyweights in a straight line? Well, lucky for you, here’s a drag race that answers that very question.

The Competitors

The protagonist of this drag race is a second-gen BMW S 1000 RR} that was sold between 2015 and 2018. It's powered by a 999cc, inline-four mill that puts out 199 horsepower and 83.4 pound-feet which, coupled with its roughly 450-pounds curb weight, gives it a commendable power-to-weight ratio.

Going against the Beemer is a second-gen Suzuki Hayabusa and a second-gen Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R. The former uses a 1340cc, inline-four engine that produces 197 horsepower and 114 pound-feet, while the latter employs a 1440cc, inline-four engine churning out 207 horsepower and 113 pound-feet. However, both these bikes are quite hefty tipping the scales at 586 pounds and 593 pounds, respectively.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that both the 'Busa and the Ninja boast an extended swingarm and custom sprockets.

BMW S 1000 RR vs Suzuki Hayabusa Drag Race

First, the S 1000 RR goes head-on against the Hayabusa.

In this race, the Hayabusa, with its long swingarm and a spot on reaction time, gets a jump on the BMW S 1000 RR. By now, you’d think it’s a clear-cut win for the ‘Busa, but the S 1000 RR actually starts reeling in the Hayabusa after a couple of seconds.

This is backed by the speed trap as the BMW ends the run at 143mph while the Hayabusa does 135mph.

BMW S 1000 RR vs Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R Drag Race

Next up, it’s the ZX-14R’s turn and this race also comes as a shocker.

As soon as the lights go out, the S 1000 RR gets a jump on the stretched out Kawasaki ZX-14R and leads the way. Once hooked, though, the ZX-14R quickly catches up and passes the S 1000 RR to win the race.

Both riders also perform a re-match too but it’s a much slower run, thanks to the S 1000 RR’s constant wheelies and the ZX-14R’s wheelspin.

All in all, it was an epic drag race, and kudos to the Beemer rider for giving these heavyweights a run for their money on his smaller motorcycle. Goes to show how crazy liter-class bikes are, doesn’t it?
