Ducati struggles to remain ahead of the pack when it comes to developing new technologies and their last surprise is the new Desmodromic Variable Valve Timing technology – DVT.

The main news behind Ducati’s new technology is the fact that it adjusts both the intake and the exhaust camshafts and, what sounds even better these two can be adjusted independently. This new continuously variable technology translates directly into a smoother engine at all rpm levels and helps to deliver the torque more equally across the rev band.

Thanks to this new feature Ducati’s fresh 1198 cc Tersastretta DVT engine will be able to comply with the EURO 4 emission regulations. The unit also features an anti knock sensor and delivers a maximum output of 160 hp at 9,500 rpm and a peak torque of 136 Nm (100.2 lb-ft) at 7,500. Ducati claims that its new unit sees an improvement of 8% in terms of efficiency.

For the moment, the company didn’t reveal which model will benefit from the new engine, so stay tuned for more details.
