Firefighters Will Now Ride These Purpose-built BMW Bikes & Scooters
The Bavarian giant has introduced special variations of the F 850 GS and the CE-04 for German firefighters
by Punya Sharma, onBMW has always had an association with law enforcement bodies and we’ve seen all kinds of patrol vehicles from the German brand, be it tourers like the R 1250 RT or ADVs like the BMW F 900 XR. Keeping the trend going, BMW has taken the wraps off two special variations of the F 850 GS adventure bike and the CE-04 e-scooter, prepared for the German fire brigade and rescue services.
BMW Unveils F 850 GS & CE-04 For Fire Fighters
Unveiled at the Interschutz 2022 trade fair, BMW calls these models the F 850 GS-P and the CE-04-P, with P meaning patrol, and both models have an array of upgrades to make them purposeful. They also don a special livery comprising the colors of the German firefighting authority - red, yellow, orange, and white.
Starting with the CE-04-P electric scooter, the company has kitted it with a large windscreen, main stand, an illuminated trunk, and a waterproof top box to store firefighting essentials. These aside, the scooter also packs LED flashers, a 360-degree strobe light, and front and rear programmable displays to show messages. Topping all this are creature comforts such as heated grips, a fast charger, and an anti-theft alarm.
Under the skin, the CE-04 makes do with a 31kW motor and 8.5kWh battery. These help it reach a top speed of 120kmph (electronically limited) while returning a respectable range of 130km.
Like the CE-04, the F 850 GS-P comes with an array of LED lights, two waterproof cases, a strobe light, and programmable displays, with the addition of loudspeakers and a cockpit-mounted microphone. There’s also a unique switch to keep the bike running without a key, so the light and radio still work even if you take the key out. The bike shuts off as soon as someone tries to ride away without a key, thus ensuring there are no thefts.
The USP, however, is the bike’s off-road capabilities, which can come in handy to reach deserted places and even help the serviceman tackle obstacles on the road. Complementing its versatile ridability is the powerful 853cc, twin-cylinder that makes 95 horsepower and 92Nm.
All in all, this is a good initiative by BMW and it should help the firefighters react to emergencies more promptly. Not to mention, the addition of the CE-04 to the force also promotes the #GoGreen initiative.
