Far from treating the global pandemic as an excuse to rationalise its line-up, Can Am is actually increasing the number of models it offers and is introducing a whole raft of improvements to existing models in both the Ryker and Spyder ranges. But they are not stopping there and thought about those who want to take their trike off-road with a new RALLY version... This is nuts!

2022 Can Am Ryker and Spyder

Along with many other manufacturers, Can Am is showing healthy sales figures for the first half of 2021 compared to the same period last year. Such improvements are natural, given the trading conditions this year over last, but that hasn't stopped Can Am from updating all its model variations and even introducing a new variation on the Ryker platform.

Two basic models make up the Can Am line-up; the full-fat Spyder and the smaller-engined Ryker.

Part One: The Ryker

The Ryker is powered by a 900cc Rotax triple cylinder engine giving 82 hp and 58.5 lb ft of torque. It now comes with cruise control, and is equipped with CVT transmission. It comes in Base, Sport and now Rally versions, the last-named an attempt at an all-road version.

The biggest talking point is the Ryker Rally with its all-road pretensions. Can Am claim this to be an all-new model but, in reality, it is a revised standard Ryker. The suspension sits slightly higher giving increased travel and ground clearance is affected likewise. The wheels and tyres are dual-purpose and here is a pre-filter on the air intake and an underbody aluminium bash plate.

Suspension is by KYB and it comes standard with A-arm protectors and a larger bumper up front. The riding position has been modified: naturally, it is slightly taller due to the raised suspension and the seat has more padding. Foot pegs are lower and the handlebars have been changed. An Akrapovič exhaust is fitted as standard.

The electronics package now features a 'Rally Mode', which allows the tail to be hung out with the rear wheel spinning.

Suggested retail price for the Ryker Rally is $13,499.

The base model Ryker can be bought with the 900cc engine or an alternative 600cc twin-cylinder unit. the base model will cost $8,999 and the Sport model $11,599.

Part Two: The Spyder F3 and RT

The Spyder, in both F3 and RT guises has the larger Rotax 1330cc ACE triple-cylinder engine producing 115bhp and 96 lb ft of torque and is fitted with a six-speed semi-auto gearbox. Big news here are the two special editions: the F3-S Special Series and F3 Limited Special Series, which are simply different trim levels.

The Special Series gets a new grille, gas KYB front shock absorbers, a Sport mode and unique Manta Green paint. The F3 Limited Special Series panders to those who like more comfort and practicality and comes with a top case and a comfort seat with back rest.

Price range is between $17,999 for a base F3 while the top of the range F3 Limited Special Series costs $27,499.

For those who want it all, there is the RT Sea-To-Sky model, complete with adjustable driver backrest, adaptive foam seats with lumbar support, side wind deflectors and is finished off with 12-spoke wheels and Sea-to-Sky embroidery. Prices start for the RT range from $23,899.
