Honda->ke291 has always been at the forefront of technology and is a major player in the world of artificial intelligence, robotics and big data. Now fresh new information has cropped up suggesting that the Japanese Red is getting serious about developing electric vehicles and so is being busy partnering with another technocrat, Hitachi Automotive Systems.

As a matter of fact, both these companies had signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this year in February and they have escalated those talks by signing in for a joint venture partnership in March. They have christened the JV as Hitachi Automotive Electric Motor Systems, and it will be heeding to develop, manufacture and sales of motors for electric vehicles, both for Honda and other players.

Countering to the deals that lurk all around the use of combustion fuel and its effects on the environment, a greater deal of thought is gone into using alternative sources to power our vehicles and one such attempt is made by Hitachi Automotive Electric Motor Systems that is striving for a greater cause. There has never been a better time to introduce zero emission vehicles that cater to a larger mass of bikers and commuters alike. There hasn’t been a lot of success stories on this front, but things have now started to change for good.

Hitachi and Honda have entered this joint venture with a capital of 5 billion yen ($ 45 million appx) each and share 51% and 49% stakes respectively. This new company will come up on Hitachi's existing unit of Hitachi Automotive Systems in Hitachinaka-shi, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.

The electric motors developed here will make its way into Honda's future line-up of electric motorcycles, of whose concepts have already been hitting the news tab for quite some time now. The EV-Cub was showcased during 2015 Tokyo show and this little scooter is touted to become the first electric production model to hit the streets.

Other concepts include the Honda RC-E concept, which is an electric race superbike showcased by Honda that takes cues from the brand's involvement at the Isle of Man TT Zero through the Mugen Schinden electric motorcycle. Along with Honda motorcycles, the JV will develop electric motors also to Honda cars and any other vehicle manufacturer in the world.

Although all this is a good piece of technology meant to run cleaner motorcycles, it is going to take at least a couple of years until Honda can completely develop these motors and make use of it on any production motorcycle. Expect the CBR brand to get a taste of this newfound technology before eventually making way into the current mainstream models.

The Press release states: "The new company will respond to the growing global demand from automakers for electric vehicle motors by developing competitive motors that combine the expertise of the two companies."

Honda has previously also tied up with GM earlier this year. The resultant firm called Fuel Cell System Manufacturing LLC targets the introduction of a new fuel-cell system by the year 2020.
