This Honda TV advert from the mid 2000s got it absolutely spot-on. Rather than concentrating on one aspect of their business, they cleverly showcased lots of their products with a great soundtrack featuring Andy Williams singing The Impossible Dream.

The Best Brand Advert Ever?

It's easy to pick out the worst examples of advertising but that ignores lots of great adverts that have appeared over the years. One of the best is this advert from Honda in the mid-2000s.

Rather than concentrating on one aspect of its business, it brings in as many aspects as possible, from motorcycles, to quads, to cars, to motorsport, to powerboat racing: old and new. It cleverly tells you about the heritage of the company and many of its greatest achievements.

Over it all is Andy Williams singing The Impossible Dream, which the 'hero' of the story sings on or in whatever bike or car he is riding or driving. Looking at it retrospectively, could he have been the inspiration for 'Duke Caboom', the failed Canadian stunt toy from Toy Story 4?

It starts as our hero pulls on a jacket and helmet in his caravan before jumping onto his Monkey Bike to ride away from a farm by a lake. He then changes to a Super Cub and then rides a quad bike along the shoreline. He's then seen in a 1960s S2000 open sports car, on a Goldwing, in a '60s Grand Prix bike, a modern S2000, an NSX, on what looks like a VFR, in a '60's Grand Prix car, a 2000's Grand Prix car, a powerboat and, finally, a hot air balloon.

It's a brilliant concept, brilliantly filmed and edited and with plenty of iconic machinery to drool over.
