Honda->ke291 has finally unveiled its new-and-improved CBR->ke2921000RR family with the SP and SP2 loadedwith lots of Honda yummygoodness packed in. This was a necessary revamp that's meant to (hopefully) improve Honda's supersport->ke293 market prospects, and help it get past its $185,000 RC213V-S mistake.

What's Up?

The SP added some power (10 ponies), trimmed some fat and adopted a fandangled electronic front suspension system by Öhlins, to name a few. While both rides are fairly race-tastic, the SP2 takes it up another notch. Essentially it's a racebike that's detuned just enough to be legally used on public roads (individual results vary according to riding style), and the factory will sell bona fide race teams the parts necessary to convert it from barely street legal to ready for the closed-circuit track or road course.

Production numbers will be limited to 500 units, and unlike the RC213V-S, it won't cost a freakin' mint to score one. MSRP is still to-be-determined, but the SP and SP2 models are expected to roll for around $16K and $25K respectively starting in Spring of '17. I to take a closer look at this pair in greater detail once the show is over, and look forward to discovering the full extent of the improvements.
