Stripping and rebuilding an engine can be a daunting task but this series of videos shows you step-by-step how to go about it.

How To Strip and Rebuild a triumph Twin Engine

There are lots of people who really want to get their hands dirty and strip down an engine and then rebuild it to as-new condition. In the old days, you got your hands on a Haynes or other workshop manual and made the pages gradually more and more oily as you thumbed through it while working on the motor.

Now, we have the wonder that is Youtube and there are any number of videos showing home mechanics taking an engine apart, checking it and putting it all back together again, often with plenty of hints and tips along the way that will save you headaches later on.

This series of videos by Todd of Lowbrow Customs are some of the best we have come across. He starts with a brief history of the Triumph Parallel Twin engine and how to tell the different versions apart. Then he goes on in simple steps, stripping the engine down.

The Triumph twin is a remarkably simple engine to work on and you don't need too many special tools. But it is good to learn from other's experience and, after watching this series, you should feel confident enough to tackle your own tear-down and rebuild.

The other thing about these videos is, even if you are not planning on working on your own engine, they are very therapeutic to watch on a cold winter's day. Also, if it really is too cold outside to go into your garage, you can watch and learn so that, when the temperature in your garage rises above freezing, you are ready to get to work.
