Since the time Husqvarna showcased its ‘Real Street’ Vitpilen 401 and the Swartipilen 401 concepts at the 2014 EICMA, the industry is abuzz to see some bonkers design unlike anything seen before on the streets. The following year saw the Vitpilen 701 concept showcased at EICMA, and it wasn’t until this year that we get to see the production models for 2018.

Finally, after playing the tease game all this while, the Swedish Huskies have dropped the Vitpilen and the Svartipilen machines on the streets and will come to a showroom near you. This Vitplilen 701 will be the first of the Husqvarna’s ‘Real Street’ motorcycle lineup that is headed to bring in the Swedish company’s name into the world stage followed by the Vitpilen 401, Swartipilen 401 and Swartipilen 701.

Designed to strike, these machines have pure and progressive styling cues from the future. They get sleek and aggressive bodywork forming clean lines and carries a unique single element body panel. If not a head turner, I don’t know where to place these designs as it cannot be compared to anything running on two wheels or four for that matter.

While the 401s’ have their internal organs and the bone structure similar to the KTM Duke 390, the 701s’ get it from the Duke 690 including the engine, trellis frame, complete with the alloy swing arm, WP inverted telescopic front forks, and Brembo braking systems. Expect the same gizmos also to be here like the throttle-by-wire, switchable two-channel ABS and slipper clutch borrowed from the brand’s famous enduro models.

Exact power figures have not been revealed, but we believe the 401s’ have it similar to the Duke 390s’ 43.5 hp and 26 lb-ft of torque and the 701s’ get the 74 horses and 53 lb-ft of torque. These guys are coming to the US shores in the summer of ’18, and we can’t wipe the grin off our faces. And I think Husqvarna is going to set new favorites. Others, better start running to your mama.

The North American MSRP for the Vitpilen and Svartipilen 401 is reportedly $6,299, and the 701 Vitpilen will be available for $11,999. All of them will hit showrooms starting in late April. They will also share floor space with the KTM bikes in KTM showrooms across the country. The Svartipilen 701 which was showcased as a concept at the previous EICMA will be released as a 2019 model later on.

These 401 siblings and the 701 will be made at the KTM Mattighofen, Austria facility to give them a premium feel and use European components on them. But the engines that will run on these Huskies will be built in India by Bajaj, as they already make them for the KTMs’. In 2018, the production of the 401 siblings will be shifted to Chakan where they will be made for the world market by Bajaj, similar to the KTMs’. The 701 might follow next year.

All these bikes are pitted as premium lifestyle products that come with ‘Modern Classis’ whose goal is to give you the oomph factor whenever you are seen riding on one of them. They are continuing the brand’s heritage in creating honest and innovative motorcycles that provide highly-enjoyable and inspiring riding experiences. And I think the Husqvarna is set to become the favorites, snatching it from the Duke itself.
