The first shots of Triumph's 2022 Tiger 1200 adventure bike are emerging from Portugal and there's something familiar about that headlight.

Triumph Copying Harley Davidson?

As if the incredulity of a Harley Davidson adventure bike wasn't enough, one look at the styling of the front end and headlight of the Pan America in pre-launch publicity shots was more than enough to invite howls of derision from press and public alike.

However, since thePan Am was launched, the hoo-ha has died down, in part because the headlight doesn't look nearly as bad in the flesh as it did in photos and in part because the bike was actually really good and the sniggering died away completely, taking with it any criticism of the looks.

Now, take a close look at these shots of the new Triumph Tiger 1200. Blow me if Triumph hasn't also gone for the strip front headlight treatment. OK, so it has a little more shape to it than the Pan Am, but the similarity is plain to see.

Of course, it is highly unlikely that Triumph copied Harley Davidson - the design of the Tiger would have been signed off long before the H-D came to light (if you'll pardon the pun) - but isn't it amazing that two manufacturers independently arrive at a similar lighting solution for the headlight?

Hard luck on Harley for taking the flack for their headlight, while Triumph gets away Scot free but it does show us that the grand old man of Milwaukee has some pretty sharp cookies in the design department and that, with the Pan Am, they were predicting the future as much as adhering to the status quo.
