Clad in carbon-fiber, it is a fully faired G 310 R sportster

Back in 2013, BMW teamed up with TVS Motors in a Euro 20 million partnership to support them with the manufacturing and distribution of smaller capacity motorcycles, starting with the G 310R. TVS also launched the Apache RR 310 that was nothing but a full faired G310R for the Indian markets.

Now though, the Germans have perfected that sportsbike and have slapped their badge on what we believe is the potent new mini-superbike, the BMW G310RR Supersport. Snapped by our friends at Oliepeil, this BMW G310RR was on display at the BMW Motorrad Days in Japan and has its dad, S 1000 RR, written all over it.

Carrying a BMW badge, this carbon mini-superbike is BMW’s iteration of the same and is currently being developed for the world stage. Not surprised though really with this. BMW was always going to make a fully faired variant of the G 310R roadster, and here it is carrying G310RR stickers at a BMW event. Of course, it is not a production version, but just a mock-up special at the moment.

Based on the G10R platform, a brand new fully-faired 310 cc sports bike has arrived for the big party. Clad in full carbon-fiber, it carries over the powertrain, suspension unit, chassis, brakes, radials and the exhaust from the entry-level naked German. It is, however, a tricked-up version of the TVS Apache RR 310 that is currently on the showroom floors in India.

With the hopes to take on the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R3, KTM RC 390, Honda CBR 300R, Kawasaki Ninja 400, Benelli 302R, etc. BMW has put this build on the stage. Unfortunately, we believe that this mock-up is just to showcase the German prowess of carbon-fiber work produced both in-house and with its technical partners.

The bodywork carries cues from the liter-class BMW S1000RR and gets faux headlights like it is ready for the World Supersport 300 Championship. It’s got an all-new 313cc backward-tilted, four-stroke, single cylinder, water and oil-cooled engine paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The same one is running on the BMW G 310 R. (Both developed by TVS).

It also carries the same main steel Trellis frame but differs in the aluminum subframe units. Suspension units from KYB are seen here as well with the 41 mm gold-anodized Upside down forks at the front and a directly hinged monoshock with adjustable preload at the rear. The wheels also carry similar designs with ByBre braking units and Michelin rubber.

Along with the nine new motorcycles BMW will be unveiling for the 2019 year, we hope that this mini-superbike makes the cut as well. More information will come in due course to the Intermot, and the EICMA motorcycle shows in the next couple of months.
