After the recent sighting of the mini 400cc enduro, it looks like KTM is now shiting focus on its touring lineup, as spy shots of a new 890 Adventure-based test mule have surfaced on the internet.

To jog your memory, KTM already has two 890 Adventure models - 890 Adventure and 890 Adventure R - with the former focusing on adventure touring while the latter is your off-roading partner. Thus, the new model makes perfect sense and will rival the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT.

2023 KTM 890 Adventure S Spied Testing

The spy shots of the new KTM, let’s call it the 890 Adventure S(port), reveal some rather crucial details about the motorcycle. To start off, the most noteworthy components are the 17-inch alloy wheels, which make the bike’s road-going intentions crystal clear. In addition, the alloy wheels wear road-biased rubber, compared to the 890 Adventure’s dual-purpose hoops.

Besides this, the 890 Adventure S boasts redesigned bodywork and windscreen, chunkier and shorter than the ADV, respectively. The redesigned fairing widens out in the lower half and hides the rider’s legs behind it to ensure better wind protection at high speeds, thus increasing highway suitability.

Finally, the test mule features a new exhaust coming out of the 889cc, twin-cylinder engine. This also hints that the sportier 890 Adventure would get minor engine tweaks to make it smoother and quieter than the off-roader.

Other components, such as the TFT instrument cluster, WP USD forks, monoshock, swingarm, and the LED lights, are all reminiscent of the existing ADV, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. Also same here is the 5.2-gallon fuel tank and the in-house-made braking setup.

2023 KTM 890 Adventure S - Expected Launch & Price

Judging from the spy shots, the test mule doesn’t look anywhere near the production model and is still in its testing phase. So, expect the launch to take place in the second half of 2022, possibly at the 2022 EICMA.

As for pricing, the 890 Adventure S should sit between the standard and the R model, at around $14,000. Of course, only if KTM resorts to part-sharing and doesn’t throw in any extra road-specific components that bump the cost.
