Ever since its debut in 2008, the BMW S 1000 RR has been a key player in the prestigious liter-class segment, pushing the envelope of performance, electronics, and design. However, the most recent edition is turning three years old this year (still looks the part, though) and with its European rivals getting constant updates, it’s time BMW threw its hat in the ring again.

This is exactly what the Bavarian giant is planning to do, as leaked type-approval documents reveal a more powerful BMW S 1000 RR is coming super soon. Though the documents aren’t available as of now, the news comes from the trustable Bennetts BikeSocial, so we’ll take it.

2023 BMW S 1000 RR Incoming

According to the documents, the new S 1000 RR will feature both engine and chassis changes inspired by the top-of-the-line M 1000 RR. Taking up the former, the 998cc, inline-four engine will boast a higher 13,750rpm redline, bumping its peak power from 204 horsepower to 206.5 horsepower. The redline is still reasonably lower than the M 1000 RR’s 14,500rpm peak, though.

As for the latter, the documents read a 16mm longer wheelbase length for the 2023 S 1000 RR, bringing it to 1,457mm. Interestingly, this is exactly the same as the M 1000 RR’s wheelbase which runs a bigger sprocket at the rear for better acceleration, and it’s likely the new motorcycle will get it too. The switch would result in a lower top speed, but hey, if it makes the S 1000 RR even more tractable, we’re not complaining.

These aside, other dimensions of the S 1000 RR, including its 197kg curb weight, remain unchanged. Similarly, we also expect the motorcycle to retain its standout design except for new colors. However, we’re hoping the M 1000 RR’s carbon wings make their way onto the base model, similar to what Ducati did with the 2022 Panigale V4.

2023 BMW S 1000 RR - Expected Launch Timeline

Since BMW has already filed type-approval documents, chances are the new S 1000 RR is in the final stages of production. We haven’t seen any spy shots of the motorcycle yet, but we’re pretty sure it’ll debut at the upcoming EICMA, or even before it.
