With all the uncertainty surrounding a lot of struggling bikemakers these days, it’s refreshing to see a fledgling brand making some production headway. That’s what’s happening to Motus these days, and for what it’s worth, everybody is excited to see what lies ahead for the all-American V4 sports tourer.

For now, production of Motus’ motorcycles has reached a point where the company is confident of shipping bikes on a weekly basis, particularly the MST sports tourer. That sort of thing may not mean much for a company like Harley-Davidson, but that’s a huge deal for a relatively new brand like Motus.

The company also announced that it had set up a new dealership in Southern California to handle the sale of its motorcycles. That responsibility now falls on San Diego BMW, which according to Motus, is already taking orders of the MST. Even better, engineers at San Diego BMW are well-versed in dealing with sports bikes and tourers, making it an ideal dealership to handle and cater to customers looking to buy any of Motus’ motorcycle lineup.

It’s reassuring to see a company make this much progress in the industry in light of other manufacturers sitting precariously on the other side of the fence. It doesn’t mean that Motus is on its way to becoming a heavyweight player in the business, but from where it was a few years ago, the company has definitely progressed to the point where it’s on the precipice of becoming a mainstream company.

Why it matters

I couldn’t be happier for Motus Motorcycles. The American bike brand has really made a lot of strides into becoming a real player in the sports adventure segment. It still has a long way to go, that much is certain. But news like this only reinforces the belief that Motus is pushing all the right buttons into expanding its reach.

The steady increase in production is the biggest indication that things are going about as smoothly as it can get for Motus. You don’t announce something like that just for the sake of announcing it. You announce it because you’re confident that the increased supply of your motorcycles will be met with an increased demand for the bikes. As more people get introduced to Motus and its lineup of sports tourers, a steady uptick in interest will follow.

The company’s dealership agreement with San Diego BMW is another step in the right direction for Motus. Since production is going along smoothly, the company is going to need a dealership network that not only has an impeccable track record of sales performance, but also has the capacity to fully understand the inner workings of the bikes it’s selling. Having engineers at San Diego BMW with the mental and engineering acumen to handle its motorcycles is another huge bonus for Motus Motorcycles.

All told, it’s been a tremendous past few days for Motus Motorcycles. Signs of progress are becoming more and more evident, and if the company keeps this up, we could be seeing more and more of Motus’ bikes in other parts of the country. Who knows, a point may come wherein we see Motus motorcycles all over the world.

Don’t shrug that off because we might be closer to that scenario than we think.
