MV Agusta announces two new adventure bikes, one powered by a 550cc parallel twin engine sourced in China and the other powered by a 930cc triple-cylinder engine. Few other details released at the present time.

MV Agusta reveals two new adventure models

An adventure bike in the range is almost obligatory these days although few would have predicted that iconic sports bike brand MV Agusta would be tempted to go down that route. However, that is exactly what has happened and there is not one, but two models, called the 5.5 and the 9.5.

The 5.5 is powered by a parallel twin-cylinder 550cc engine, built by MV's Chinese partner QJ. The larger 9.5 model is powered by a 930cc version of MV's famous 800cc triple-cylinder engine. External dimensions are the same and the capacity increase has been effected by increasing the bore and stroke.

The 930cc engine produces 121bhp at 10,000rpm and 75lb.ft at 7,000rpm and can run a standard hydraulic clutch or a Rekluse automatic clutch. No power figures have been released for the 550cc unit but we expect it to be around 50bhp.

Both engines are housed in a steel dual loop cradle frame and clothed in bodywork with a 'Lucky Explorer'-inspired paint job. This was last seen on the Cagiva Elefant in 1999. The styling is pretty conventional adventure bike, which some might find a little disappointing given the looks of other bikes in the MV range. The front wheel is 21-inch.

Other features on both bikes include front disc brake covers with cooling slots, as well as hand guards, bash plates, and a seven-inch colour TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fi for updating.

No pricing or delivery dates have been announced.
