Introduced to the world in 2014, Polaris->ke4818 manufactured Slingshot was the three-wheeled motorcycle that had a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, side-by-side bucket seats, gear stick, pedals and three point seat belts. Made for having loads of fun on an open racetrack, these machines will also behave on our streets if you are in the right state.

For 2018, the brand has shown more interest in this concept by launching newer versions of the existing models. They have also added another higher end variant of their SLR flagship model and calling it the SLR. Along with this announcement, the brand is making good use of their Indian Motorcycle->ke3292 stint to bring in the industry leading Ride Command infotainment system onto their roadster series.

For lack of better word, they are still called as motorcycles. Maybe because it has no airbags or crumple zone, and driver and passenger must wear motorcycle helmets in certain states. Neither do they have any roof, doors, or side windows. It is either the most confused motorcycle or the most confused car. So, someone just called it the “auto-cycle”.

Slingshot S

The line-up will consist of S, SL, SLR and SLR LE. The Slingshot S is the base model that comes with Power steering, ABS disc brakes, Electronic Stability and Traction Control. The interiors are, of course, all weather proof and can be individually adjusted according to the rider tastes. You get bucket seats for both driver and passenger bolted onto the lightweight tubular chassis with carbon fibre reinforced belt. Four projector headlights illuminate the road adequately.

At the rear, there is lockable bins and glovebox to store your essentials (not a suitcase but small bags will fit.) The three wheels are machined by lightweight aluminium components and are powered by a GM EcoTeck 2.4L, DOHC, 4-cylinder engine that ca pump out a good 173 bhp and 166 lb.ft. The power is transmitted to the front via a 5-speed gearbox.

The S will cost you $19,999 MSRP and is available only in Gloss black paint job.

Slingshot SL

The next model is the Slingshot SL which gets everything the S has and more accessories. The SL gets a premium Rockford Fosgate audio system that can be operated with the multi-functional Ride Command touchscreen. The wheels are 18”cast aluminium, and the powertrain remains the same with the rear getting a 20” cast aluminium wheel.

This SL will additionally get a clear ripper series wind deflector and the brand’s hood accent graphics on the bonnet. There is a rear-view camera too that can be viewed using the 7” ride command system. The Ride Command can access your smartphone information via USB and Bluetooth sync and play music or answer calls within the system.

The SL also gets a premium pain job and is available in two colours: Sunset red and Navy Blue. It will be available for $25,499 MSRP.

Slingshot SLR

Coming to the SLR (not the Mercedes-McLaren dreamer), this was the brand’s flagship model and it currently still is. Addition to everything from the SL, this SLR gets a lot of equipment for hooning the track without compromise. Starting with the Sparco components, the vehicle gets premium SLR branded bolstered sports seats instead of the bucket ones. The steering wheel, gear knob and the pedal cover also get the Sparco treatment.

The tyres also get upgraded to 18” at the front and 20” at the rear and are premium with forged aluminium rather than cast ones with the rear one being 305 mm wider than the SL. The Ride Command system also gets an additional navigation capability in the SLR with turn by turn navigation on it. The same system you would find on one of the Indian cruisers. In the SLR cockpit, you also get interior LED lightings.

This SLR gets premium two toned paint job with coloured frame accents and full body graphics and is available in two colours: Electric Blue and Orange Madness. The SLR could be yours for $ 28,999 MSRP.

Slingshot SLR LE

Finally, the new flagship is here. The SLR LE. Heighting visual elements with this one, Polaris gave it a Ghost Gray with Lime Squeeze treatment to make it stand out from the crowd. (Well, with three wheels, it already does.) This LE model gets all the bells and whistles of the SLR and ups the ante with Bilstein 10-way adjustable shocks and a 200-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system.

The premium SLR branded bolstered sports seats gets color-matched side bolsters the wind deflector gets tinted. That eye-catchy paintjob is an exclusive tri-coloured paint with limited edition graphics, and the whole setup is priced at $30,999 MSRP.

Then there is personalisation. The entire range of slingshots can be customised with dozens of Slingshot Engineered Accessories, including premium 200-watt Rockford Fosgate audio kit, quilted comfort seats or add custom style with the all new rear fender. With all of this, the owners of the S and SL can get their vehicle fitted with the Ride Command system with navigation. Most of the vehicle accessories are offered in a variety of factory color-matched options, which allow consumers to customize their Slingshots truly.
