2023 KTM 390 Rally/Enduro Spied Testing

Spotted testing in KTM’s own backyard, in Austria, the test mule in context here is vastly different from the 390 Adventure. Most of the changes aimed at giving the bike the epic off-road prowess that it has always deserved. What gives away its identity, though, is the signature WP suspension at both ends and the overall design that’s reminiscent of the pre-existing KTM 450 Rally Replica.

Lasering in on the changes, the first noteworthy aspect is the design. Instead of the radical 390 Duke-inspired style, the test mule is far more rugged in its ways. It features spoke wheels and slimmer bodywork. The front-wheel size looks much bigger too (possibly a 21-inch unit). This should further amplify the bike’s off-road capabilities.

Additionally, the fascia is quite different featuring a tall mudguard, windscreen, and a vertically stacked headlight. This is similar to what we saw on the recently spied 2023 KTM 1290 Duke. } The TFT instrument cluster, mirrors, and handlebar all resemble the 390 ADV, though.

Coming to more “serious” changes, the 390 Enduro boasts a totally different swingarm, not only different from the 390 Adventure but also different from the upcoming ‘23 125 Duke and 390 Duke.} The swingarm here has a banana-type shape and swoops up, helping to increase the bike’s ground clearance. Likewise, the subframe is also vastly different from the upcoming Dukes and looks a lot longer (and slimmer).

Despite this, expect the engine to be a carbon copy of the 2023 390 Duke. We say this because the engine casing, the exhaust layout, and the mounting points are all exactly the same as the upcoming Duke.

Could This Be A GasGas 400cc Bike?

Even though this looks properly KTM, there’s a high chance KTM could paint this red instead of orange and sell it under the GasGas brand name which, by the way, comes under KTM itself. Just recently, GasGas introduced its first road-going products, the SM 700 and the ES 700, both of which are essentially based on KTM’s 690 range.}

So this 400cc enduro selling under the GasGas name instead of KTM seems very likely. Nevertheless, it looks like there will surely be a new off-road-oriented motorcycle sitting alongside the 390 Adventure withing KTM’s umbrella .
