Michael Schumacher, one of the most successful ever Formula One racing drivers on Sunday completed his first ever competitive motorcycle race onboard a KTM Super Duke.

The now retired German racer succumbed to the need for speed when he rode a 990 KTM Super Duke in the 10-lap KTM Trophy race.

He recorded a time of 1 minute.49.612 in the race, more than a second and a half faster than his time in the morning practice session and finished in fourth place. The German F1 legend also recorded the second fastest lap on the Misano circuit in Italy, which also hosts a round of the MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship later this year.

Italy is familiar ground for Schumacher who was behind the wheel of the iconic red Ferrari for a large part of his racing career. He has a huge public following among motor sports fans in that country and around the world. During his dominance of the F1 racing circuits he recorded 91 Grand Prix wins and took 68 pole positions. He retired at the end of the 2006 season.

Schumacher made no predictions or promises about future activities on the racing circuits after the KTM Trophy race, saying: “I am just enjoying myself and having fun”.
