But it making it to the 2018 line-up is subjected to market acceptance.

First seen glimpses at the Osaka and Tokyo Motorcycle Shows in 2016 as the SV650 Rally Concept, Suzuki will be showcasing the production-ready model at the upcoming 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017 which will be held from 27 October to 5 November 2017.

Giving it a cafe-racer styling element like the bikini fairing and clip-on handlebar, the Japanese brand calls it a "neo-retro" take on a motorcycle that boasts modern engine and chassis embedded with the latest technologies.

Even though this SV650X is a production ready model, Suzuki is yet to take a decision on manufacturing this on their production lines. Suzuki will assess market reactions and handle on customer feedback before giving it a green signal. Until then, the SV650X will remain as a concept.

Designed to pay homage to the tarmac rally cars and bikes of the ’70s, the SV650X will come with a newly-styled bikini fairing and tinted screen, LED fog lamps, clip-on handlebars, ribbed seats and many other bits which are already made available as accessories for the SV650 naked roadster.

Unlike the original Rally Concept though, the SV650X will miss the shotgun-style Yoshimura exhaust, side panels and the metal grill on the headlight that would have otherwise made the SV650X a radical piece of weaponry. The spotlights and alloys get a blackout in full effect instead of the loud white.

Coming to the mechanicals, the SV650 will share the engine and chassis components with the current generation SV650. It will run on the same 645 cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 90-degree V-Twin engine but will definitely be tuned to be spikier.

While the 41 mm tubes front suspension comes sans adjustments, the link-type monoshock handles the rear with a seven-notch preload adjuster. In the braking department, the bike gets dual 290 mm front discs with twin-pot Tokiko caliper and a single-pot caliper pinching the 240 mm rear disc with Nissin ABS.

Suzuki GB general manager, Paul de Lusignan, commented: “The SV650 Rally concept generated a lot of interest at last year’s show, with retro-styled machines proving very popular among riders. The SV650X is an evolution of that concept and shows how that would translate to a production machine. Currently, we cannot confirm a production schedule. We will first assess reactions to the SV650X before finalizing plans.”
