SWM is not often a spoken manufacturer. During the EICMA 2014, SWM announced to the world that they are coming back to the two-wheeled universe with the help of a Chinese investor - Daxing Gong, owner of Shineray Group.

The ambitious plan set the wheels turning and within 9 months motorcycles started rolling off the assembly line. The company offers 125cc - 650cc single-cylinder motorcycles in enduro, supermoto, dual sport and classic segments.

Now, the firm announced its plans to build V-twin motors and develop new models to take on the fierce competition.

SWM (changed from SV.VM to Speedy Working Motors) was founded in 1971 and was based in Milan, Italy. Initially, they manufactured Observed Trials, Enduro, Motocross and off-road motorcycles till the 1980s’ and because of the competition, the company went into liquidation in 1984 and production ceased.

Post the Chinese acquisition, SWM acquired an old half-million square foot Husqvarna (Now acquired by KTM) roof, not very far from the MV Agusta factory, and established the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Currently, the brand makes use of Husqvarna and Shineray single-cylinder engines on their motorcycles. Soon, both Shineray and SWM will be running on 350cc to 1200cc V-Twin machines that will be DOHC and water-cooled.

They will also probably be replacing the single cylinder models with the base 350cc V-Twin for the newbie customers, a middleweight 550cc design aimed at ‘advanced riders’ and ‘city riding,’ and an 850cc cruiser and adventure class models. The 1200cc twin will be on an ‘ultimate’ superbike/naked machine that will be the new flagship of the brand.

At a time where every major manufacturer like Ducati and MV-Agusta are jumping onto the V4 wagon, SWM is here with their ultimate V-Twin to cover the gap created by the former players.

The significant expansion from a single cylinder to a V-Twin showcases the firm's strong strategies to emerge as one of the important manufacturers in the industry and is on the path to revive its past glory days.

No launch dates were revealed, but we can expect them to be showcased at the EICMA or the INTERMOT shows this year.
