The BMW R 18 Magnifica Is a Hand-Built Masterpiece Unlike Any Other

This is arguably the most stunning custom BMW R 18 you’ll come across

The BMW R 18 is just two-years-old, yet we’ve already seen all kinds of custom projects based on it, many of them sanctioned by the company itself. Adding to this list, the German giant has now taken the wraps off the R 18 Magnifica, which flaunts brass, aluminum, and wood elements to establish itself as the most stunning custom R 18 you’ve ever seen.

Unveiled at the Top Marques show in Monaco, the Magnifica is a brainchild of Andrea Radaelli from Radikal Chopper and is extremely detailed. Most of what you see here is handmade by Radeilli and the team, except the machined billet wheels.

Built by Radikal Choppers, the entire motorcycle comes laden with handmade parts, even including a wooden tail/seat section!

While the entire design is metallic, the designer has used mahogany wood for the tail/seat section, which adds a much-needed contrast to the package. Sure, it might not be as comfy as the original R 18, but hey, it’s pretty stunning, nevertheless. The forks are again custom but retain the same rake as the stock suspension. In fact, the designer claims that the fork internals are modern, even though the external design is vintage.

Apart from all this, the bikemaker has left the engine and electricals as it is
Even the massive disc brake and accompanying calipers are entirely handmade, which is quite bamboozling.

Besides all this, there are no changes to either the 1802cc Boxer engine or the electricals, and everything remains stock as well as serviceable. Plus, the motorcycle now weighs 220-pound less than its original curb weight of 760-pounds.

BMW has taken the wraps off the Magnifica, a custom chopper based on its cruiser bike, the R 18

So what was the inspiration for this project? Well, according to Radeilli, the inspiration came from vintage motorcycles (from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s), in particular, the iconic BMW R 37. Meanwhile, the idea behind using wood was to pay homage to the wooden steering wheels found in vintage BMW cars, backed by the urge to put something “alive” on the bike.

Once the inspiration was clear, Radikal Chopper proceeded to sketch ideas for the build. Yes, no modern CAD software or render was made in advance and it was all left to Radaelli’s imagination post the sketches, which, as you can see, turned out pretty stunning.

Digging the Magnifica? Then, swipe up to know more about it.

Sadly, no. You see, Radikal Chopper made the Magnifica for Raffaello Polchi, owner of Officine Riunite Milanesi, which means you can’t get your hands on it. Even then, there’s no denying that the Magnifica stands true to its name and comes across as a truly magnificent custom motorcycle.
