Breaking motorcycle stunt records is nothing new for the Border Security Force (BSF) of the Indian army. Apart from being the country’s first line of defense, they also indulge in some motorcycle trick riding that started way back in 1990. BSF's 'Janbaz' was created in 1990, and they are famous for displaying their gravity-defying stunts and breaking their own previous records.

In the month of April 2018 alone, the Janbaz troop set four motorcycle stunt records, all of which were performed on their darling 350 CC Royal Enfield motorcycles-the face of stunt riding for the BSF. The stunts include longest riding on a ladder/pole, longest riding backward, longest riding while standing and carrying troops.

Ever since 1990, the “Janbaz” (translated to “the daredevil folks”) have been successfully attempting thrilling performances and stunts on 350 CC Royal Enfield motorcycles for their sturdy build and proportionate balance. They even get a deck to showcase their talent at the country’s spectacular Republic Day Parades including the one our former President Barack Obama was amongst the audience as the Chief Guest.

On the 16th of April 2018, the Janbaz team created history by setting two motorcycle stunt records in a single day. The first of these records was the “Back Riding on 350 CC Royal Enfield (Solo event)”. While it could still be a task for a few to ride a motorcycle normally, Janbaz Constable Ravinder Minde at Chhawla Camp New Delhi rode his motorcycle backward.

That is not it. Riding backward is one thing, but this guy rode it by standing on the seat and facing backwards. The record to beat this was just 1.25 miles and Ravinder rode like this for 04 hrs 17 min and covered a distance of 66 miles. He is a member of the team for 3 years now.

The second stunt record created on the same day was by Janbaz Inspector Ashish Bhargava who went “Standing on seat riding”. This time, the stuntman rode the Royal Enfield by standing on the seat and facing front for 2 hrs 21 min 16 secs traveling a distance of 50 miles. The previous record for the same was set at 2 hrs 24 min for 46.7 miles. Inspector Ashish Bhargava is in BSF Janbaz Team for the past 5 years.

Earlier on April 14th, the daredevil team created another world record that included 36 men perched on three such Royal Enfields forming a pyramid stunt. They traveled holding that stunt for 1 km (0.62 mi) and completed it in only 55.52 seconds. They broke their own record of 26 men on the pyramid stunt.

Then, yesterday, two troopers created an unusual trick riding record of riding on 16.5ft structures for 10 hours 34 min 27 seconds. Inspector Awadhesh Kumar Singh rode on a ladder while Head Constable Durvesh Kumar rode atop a pole tethered to the steed on their 350CC Royal Enfields and entered the Limca book of world record. They broke the previous record of 9 hours 4 minutes 05 seconds.

These motorcycles are purpose-built and are significantly heavier than regular bikes, and take some training even for seasoned bikers to get the knack of riding on these 350ccs’. The training for these stunts happens on the same motorcycles at the Motor Vehicle training center at Teknapur in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
