In 2015, Honda took the stage and introduced the RC213V-S to the world. With only 150 examples set to be made, the RC213V-S was basically a road-going version of Marc Marquez's 2014 title-winning MotoGP bike.

And, now, one of these ultra-rare motorcycles (112 of 150 units produced and with 0 miles on the odometer) has now popped up at French auction house 'ArtCurial' and will cross the block at the ArtCurial’s Retromobile 2022 auction event scheduled for March 18, 2022.

Honda RC213V-S - A MotoGP Marvel

As I've mentioned above, the RC213V-S is basically a MotoGP bike and shares a lot with Honda’s RC213V MotoGP prototype ridden by Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa in 2014.

Starting with the design, the RC213V-S’s silhouette is exactly like the MotoGP prototype. However, to make it road legal, the frontal ram-air duct was converted into a headlight by housing projectors inside them.

Additionally, the RC213V-S came wrapped in HRC’s tri-color red, white, and blue livery, which replaced the orange and white Repsol Honda livery from the race bike.

With all this, Honda also threw in conventional switchgear and a TFT instrument cluster with keyless ignition to make the bike more ‘practical’ for owners.

With the boring bits out of the way, let’s get to what the RC213V-S draws from the MotoGP bike. And the list is quite a long one.

The first (and probably the most important bit) is the engine. Instead of the 999cc, inline-four mill we see on the Honda CBR1000RR, the RC213V-S is powered by a 90-degree, 999cc, V-4 engine, based on the MotoGP bike, but obviously, with several tweaks to make it road-legal.

In its stock trim, the powertrain made a disappointing 159 horsepower. Honda did offer a Sport Kit, though, which bumped the output to 215 horsepower and brought down the weight to 350 pounds from 375 pounds, as it eliminated all the road-specific elements like mirrors, the headlight, and indicators. The bike on sale here comes equipped with this kit.

In addition to the raspy engine, Honda kitted the ‘road-legal’ RC213V-S with a MotoGP-derived gearbox and dry slipper clutch.

The same goes for the underpinnings too and the chassis comprises Ohlins TTX25 forks at the front, an Ohlins TTX36 rear mono-shock, adjustable footpegs, and Marchesini Magnesium wheels clamped by top-spec Brembos, all based on the race bike.

What's The Price?

Owing to all the MotoGP-derived tech and components, Honda priced the RC213V-S at a mind-boggling $184,000 in 2015, that too without the race kit.

And, seven years later, its value hasn’t really depreciated. You see, the folks at ArtCurial predict that this particular RC213V-S will easily sell anywhere between $200,000 and $300,000 , which isn’t really a surprise considering the exclusivity of this beauty.

If you had this kind of money lying around, would you put it on this? Let us know in the comments!
