Comes in two variants: "Prototype One" for the track and "Prototype Two" for road

Based out of Southend-on-Sea near London, the Auto Fabrica workshop is set up to design, prototype, manufacture a build from concept to final product. Their latest project is the “TYPE 11” breed of machines that has built two bespoke models for two different riding preferences, underpinned by Yamaha’s XSR 900.

This scent was picked up by the folks at Yamaha Yard Build, guys who ask "talented customizers to provide inspirational ideas on how to transform modern Yamaha models into ’Yard Build’ specials." The TYPE 11 gets the “Prototype One” track only machine and a “Prototype Two” road going version.

Looking at his appreciation and the zeal to build the most progressive and captivating motorcycles to date, Yamaha Yard Build chaps decided to team up with brothers Bujar and Gazmend Muharremi to concoct two beauties keeping retro revival in full swing. Using stock XSR 900s’, Auto Fabrica brothers created their TYPE 11 project bikes that will have all the aura of the ‘70s frolicking around but gets the modern day performance set up.

As a company specializing in the hand making and coach building of bespoke motorcycles, Auto Fabrica decided to blur the lines between classic and modern style within their understanding of the boundaries of manufacturing techniques, materials, and finishes. To setup stage for the two machines, they initially worked their charm on a TYPE 11 “Prototype Three“ motorcycle.

The Prototype Three, in fact, was commissioned after the first two prototypes went into concept design and development. With this build, the folks at Auto Fabrica imagined the “evolution of both and the ultimate aesthetic of the project as a whole.” Every detail was understood and considered before they moved on to creating their first track-only model, the Prototype One.

Knowing that they weren’t held back by any sorts of road regulations, they prowled on the stock XSR900, stripping it right back to the engine and frame. They updated the mechanicals with top-spec Custom Öhlins suspension, Brembo calipers, specialist PFM brake discs and BST Carbon Wheels, and Pirelli race slick tires before moving ahead with fabricating the rest of the body.

Pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship through tools like CAD design and engineering, rapid prototyping and machining, digital and physical mock-ups done on the Prototype Three, the body of the Prototype One took form. Hand beat aluminum panels wraps around the endurance-style quick-fill tank unit, also made out of aluminum, that all looks to the future.

Talking of which, the Prototype One makes use of lightweight hand laid carbon fiber race seat unit, and carbon fiber and nylon 3D printed components like the velocity stacks in the belly. Signature 3-into-3 hand bent exhausts do justice to the progressive design of the Prototype One, all of which is bathed in the dark black theme with the rear LED sets being the only element of its kind.

After satisfying their lust with the Prototype One, the brothers also decided to make a road-legal machine using the same structure, form, and integrity of the Prototype One. Meaning, they gave the “Two” the same suspension, brakes, and wheels but incorporated the necessary road requirements like the classic single round headlight, trimmed seat, indicators and road tires.

The hand beaten aluminum alloy still wraps around the tank like the “One,” but here, the quick-fill fueling setup is swapped with a more traditional fuel tank hidden underneath a black panel that can be lifted up to pump in the gas. Even the color palette here changes from a mean dark demeanor to a more subtle yet stylish matte polished aluminum.

At the heart of these beautiful machines, lies the same 850cc, liquid-cooled, in-line three pot, 4 stroke power mill that is regarded as one of the most exciting power plants running on any two-wheeler. The motorcycle’s three-cylinder engine produces 115 hp and 65 lb-ft of peak torque.

It’s CP3 cross-plane design is said to deliver strong, and linear torque across all rev ranges for that thrilling acceleration and improved fuel efficiency. Equipped with a traction control system and an assist slipper clutch mechanism, this powerplant provides high levels of controllability in varying conditions.
