Last year at the 2021 EICMA, CFMoto showcased its mind-blowing SR-C21 concept, which was an instant hit and was expected to birth a multi-cylinder CFMoto sportbike in the future.

Now, a few months later, this seems to be coming true as the Chinese bikemaker has filed type-approval documents for its biggest sportbike yet, called the 450SR. The documents have now been leaked, revealing quite a few details about the bike.

CFMoto 450SR Sportbike Details

Before getting to the specs, let’s dissect the accompanying image of the documents.

The leaked image shows a sporty motorcycle that flaunts a twin-pod LED headlight accompanied by aerodynamic winglets, very similar to the SR-C21 concept bike. This is topped by a subtle yet eye-catching white and blue livery featuring big ‘SR’ graphics on the fairings.

Thanks to this radical design, the upcoming motorcycle already looks more premium and edgy than the existing Kawasaki Ninja 400 and the Honda CBR500R.}

Furthermore, you can expect CFMoto to load this up with a fancy TFT, Bluetooth connectivity, riding modes, and a few other bits, which will only make life worse for its rivals.

Now, let’s come to the engine details. The biggest mystery during the SR-C21 concept’s sighting was its engine because you could clearly see two exhausts, hinting that this would be a multi-cylinder bike and that’s exactly the case.

According to the documents, the 450SR has a 449cc, parallel-twin engine (hence the supposed name) that puts out a 50 horsepower and 28.7 pound-feet. This, coupled with the bike’s curb weight of just 370 pounds, should make this quite feisty and punchy.

For reference, the 450SR’s closest rival, the Honda CBR500R, makes 47 horsepower and weighs 423 pounds, meaning the CFMoto would set a new benchmark in the category.

What’s even more interesting is that this particular 449cc engine could also serve as a blueprint for KTM’s upcoming 490 models, considering the two companies are closely tied up in a variety of projects.

Moving on, the underpinnings here are much more ‘sober’ than the SR-C21 concept and it only makes sense because…well, costs. So the 450SR packs USD forks, a single disc upfront, monoshock, and a conventional double-sided swingarm, in comparison to the SR-C21’s Ohlins forks, Brembo brakes, and a fancy single-sided swingarm.

CFMoto 450SR Expected Timeline

With type-approval documents already in place, the official unveil of the CFMoto 450SR shouldn’t be too far away. However, this would first take place in the company’s hometown, China, followed by European markets and then the USA.

Considering the CFMoto’s 300SS undercuts its rivals by a healthy margin in the US, you can expect similar things from the 450SR too.
