Motorcycle video games have come a long way since Road Rash graced arcades around the world. We begin our run down of the ten best through the years.

Ten Best Motorcycle Video Games: No.10 - Tourist Trophy

Remember Road Rash, the seminal motorcycle racing game from 1991, available for your PC or played in any arcade when you were a kid? Looked at now, it's a laughably bad game with no attempt at reality but it was the start of something big in gaming.

With the arrival of Sony's PlayStation, video gaming leapt into the 21st century and things would never be the same again. Some of the most popular games involved driving, either on the street or race track, and developed into the incredible racing games we play today.

As far as we're concerned, the arrival of motorcycle racing games was the best thing to have happened and, over the years, there have been some great ones. Over the next few posts, we'll run through our top ten best motorcycle racing games and take you on a trip down memory lane.

10. Tourist Trophy

Brought to you by the creators of the original Gran Turismo, Tourist Trophy was released in 2006 for the PS2 console. It's nowhere near as sophisticated as current racing games but, as a step up from Road Rash, it's incredible: still old school but recognisably modern.

As an early game, it lacks the breadth of content and features of today's games but that is one of its charms: put it into Arcade mode and simply go riding with no lengthy build-up.

Or you can opt for TT mode, which offers more features and is, in effect, an early version of career mode in modern-day games and offers a variety of tracks and road courses.

Fans of modern games might scoff at its simplicity but it's still a great game if you have an old PS2 lurking in the attic.

For reference, take a look at this short video of Road Rash and tell me that the old days were actually all that good!
