The first-gen Suzuki Hayabusa was a game-changer in the motorcycle world, becoming one of the first bikes to breach the 299kmph (186mph) mark. Since its inception, though, things have progressed to new heights (and faster speeds), a prime example being the supercharged-but-road-legal Kawasaki Ninja H2.

Ever wondered how a drag race between these two would go? Well, you’re in luck because that’s exactly what we’re looking at today. Oh, and just so the stakes are equal almost, the Hayabusa in context has a few extra mods, as you’re about to find out.

The Contenders

The first contender in this drag race is a first-gen Suzuki Hayabusa. While the stock bike put out 173 horsepower and 95 pound-feet, this one features a turbocharger and a NOS system. This allows it to punch in some insane quarter-mile times, which it will need to do, considering the bike that it’s going up against. need to do, considering the bike that it’s going up against. }}

This brings us to Hayabusa’s opponent, the Kawasaki Ninja H2. Unlike the Busa, the Ninja H2 doesn’t need any aftermarket turbos, since it already features a supercharger out of the box. It pumps out 230 horsepower from its 999cc, four-cylinder engine. It’s also worth noting that both bikes have extended swingarms, full-system exhausts, and lowered suspensions for doing exactly what they’re about to do.

Turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa vs Supercharged Kawasaki Ninja H2 Drag Race

Without further ado, here’s the drag race:

Top Speed Says

In the series of races shown, the Kawasaki Ninja H2 clearly takes the cake every single time. However, the gap is marginal between the two, and it’s actually the Hayabusa that puts a faster quarter-mile speed in most races. This show's us, just how fast this nearly 20-year-old bike can be with the right mods.

The winning factor is simply the H2’s initial acceleration and the rider's reaction time as the Ninja gets a jump on the Hayabusa in each race. This makes us wonder what’d happen if the latter had a better rider onboard. Perhaps a win for the 20-year-old over the new kid? What's your take on it?
