Crashes are as much a part of racing as overtaking and, often, more spectacular than the racing! That so many riders walk away from these bone-crunching accidents is as much down to luck as anything else: doesn't make them any less frightening to watch, though!

The Worst MotoGP Crashes of the 2010s

As much as we admire professional motorcycle racers for their speed and the size of their cojones, what's even more remarkable are the crashes they often walk away from.

It's not unusual for there to be as many as 1000 crashes in a season across all three classes - Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP. That fatalities are the exception rather than the rule is as much down to luck as to improvements in rider safety. Some of these riders' guardian angels have full time jobs!

While we don't want to see any rider injured, it's the crashes that provide as much of the spectacle of motorcycle racing as do the intense battles for position or race wins.

To try and choose a top ten of crashes might seem a bit macabre but it's important to note that no-one was seriously injured. Another way of looking at it would be to wonder how they whittled it down to ten, so many frightening crashes are there.

So, sit back and enjoy the safety of your armchair and let others take the risks for once!
