Back in 2003, Warner Bros released the movie Matrix Reloaded starring Keanu Reeves alongside Carrie-Anne Moss, and it still remains an epic watch.

One of the movie’s most iconic scenes was the motorcycle chase sequence where Anne Moss heroically runs from the police astride a fancy emerald green Ducati 996. In fact, this chase became so popular that the Italian giant decided to launch a special Matrix edition of its then flagship bike, the 998 in 2004.

Now, 18 years later, one of these exotic bikes has come up for sale at Motorcycle Investment Services based in the U.K, for a relatively affordable price. Let’s dive into the details.

Ducati 998 Matrix Edition

The Ducati 998 Matrix edition was a very special motorcycle, a bike that was built to order. While there’s no official record of how many were built, sources suggest only 170 of these ever went on sale.

For the special edition, the 998 donned a dark glossy green livery with subtle ‘Matrix Reloaded’ stickers just above the under-seat exhausts.

In proper lighting, the deep green color looks as good as an actual emerald (if not better) and it’s probably the only ‘green’ Ducati that ever went on sale officially.

With the standard bits, this particular motorcycle also has a few aftermarket tidbits. These include gold-colored clutch and brake levers, gold knobs for fork adjustment, a silver tinted windscreen, and the fanciest item of them all - a full-system Termignoni exhaust.

The bike has nearly 16,000 miles on the odo and will be properly serviced before delivery (or pick up).

Ducati 998 Matrix Edition Specs & Details

Apart from the livery, the 998 Matrix edition is exactly the same as the 998. Drawing power from a 998cc, V-twin engine, the bike used to make 123 horsepower and 72 pound-feet.

The engine sat in a steel trellis chassis, sprung on 43mm USD forks by Showa and an Ohlins mono-shock, both fully adjustable.

Meanwhile, braking prowess was via two 320mm disc brakes (with a four-pot caliper) up front and a single 220mm disc (with a two-pot caliper) at the rear.

Ducati 998 Matrix Edition Price

Circling back to the 998 Matrix edition, the bike’s last known MSRP was $15,985 which, coupled with nearly $3070 worth of accessories, brings its actual last known value to around $20,000.

However, the folks at MIS are willing to give it away for around $15,000. And judging from its immaculate condition, it sounds like quite a steal.
