Watching an Excelsior board track racer being reassembled is very satisfying

There is something about watching a bike being torn down prior to restoration or reassembled after all the parts have been restored that is very therapeutic. Some of the satisfaction comes from seeing how everything goes together, especially on this early Excelsior board track racer. The engineering is beautiful - the throttle and ignition advance/retard linkage in particular - and spending time in someone else's workshop gives rise to envy!

This video by Paul Brodie as he reassembles the Excelsior is fascinating not only for the quality of the rebuild but also for the historical details he gives in the commentary throughout about board track racing in the 1920s. There is no doubt that the men who raced these 1000cc monsters on tracks with banking rising anything up to 60° were either heroes or had their imagination on a very low light!

I've previously posted a video about what were nicknamed the Murderdromes here and to see a board track bike being reassembled with further commentary is fascinating.

So, sit back and get inspiration for your own restoration or build via this video.
