When all of us rant about wearing your helmet and your riding jacket at all times on the road, we weren't just being pushy. Every motorcyclist would have had a bad fall on their ride at one point or the other and some might even have succumbed to it, unfortunately. And most often than not, that would be because the rider just did not care enough to protect his head or his body from the fall.

A few get lucky without a scratch on their body and a few come out with broken bones and fractures. Nonetheless, it is common sense that a helmet and protective suit and gear goes a long distance in minimising the effect of a fall. That is exactly what happened to Chris Matheson here who flew off his drag racer at 250 mph.

A professional, Chris took off on his drag machine with all considerations taken to count, still the start was with a whole lot of wobble. Nonetheless, Chris managed to stable the motorcycle and he pinned down the throttle to go mark a speed.

But just when you think he had it all together, Chris got himself caught off-guard with the pressure of the wind against his body and he let his hand slip off the handlebar. What happened after that was inevitable.

He fell off the bike at 240-250 mph and scraped off the tarmac, tumbling like a rag doll. You could even notice the friction causing huge amounts of smoke off him and the bike continued its onward journey to the finish line and kept rolling onto past the sand track to the gravel pit area, only to be found in bits and pieces.

Chris, on the other hand, was found thanking all his stars for the minimal damage done to his body even after such a nasty fall and having just a broken wrist in this crash. All only because of his safety gear and helmet.

A lesson well learnt for all of us who watched the below video. And if you want to know the cost of the damage to the bike, it was roughly around a quarter of a million dollars.
