The Yamaha Vino has been a popular scooter in the Japanese market since the late 1990s and has established itself as an easy-going city scooter for the masses. And to make this already likable package more delectable, Yamaha has updated it for 2022. Though the update is mainly visual, it is still a welcome update that adds to the scooter’s appeal.

2022 Yamaha Vino Design

Since its inception, the Yamaha Vino has always borne a quirky design. With time, the scooter has become more modern, though, and in its current avatar, it bears a big, round apron-mounted headlight at the front flanked by chrome indicators.

While this design is carried over from before, the scooter gains two new dual-tone colors for this year. First, of which is the Light Blue option that blends a light beige (caramel-like) shade with light blue inserts here and there. This cute livery is topped off by a tan seat cover, handlebar grips, and floor mat.

Second, we have the Matte Green option which, as the name suggests, gets dark matte green bodywork with beige stripes running throughout the body. This is complemented by glossy black panels at the front, side, and rear.

Between the two, I’d pick the Light Blue shade, thanks to its bright and breezy livery. But if you don’t like either of these, the Vino is also offered in a Fighting Red, Graphite Black, Mahogany Brown Metallic, and Virgin Beige colors, all carried on from the 2021 model.

All in all, the new colors surely freshen up the Vino’s quirky design and make it look more premium or…dare I say..Italian!

2022 Yamaha Vino Features

From the design, we come to the features. As I mentioned above, the Yamaha Vino isn’t the company’s flagship or premium offering and caters to the commuter and price-sensitive audience. Yet, Yamaha has given it a fair bit of kit comprising:

- Two front cubby storages - 12V power socket- 20-liter under-seat storage- Multifunction keyhole with remote seat unlock- Blacked-out alloy wheels- Combined Braking System (CBS)- Idle start-stop system

And for the cherry on the top, you also get a retro-looking analog instrument cluster with a digital inset showing fuel level, clock, and service alerts.

2022 Yamaha Vino Engine & Underpinnings

Underneath all the quirk lies a puny 49cc, single-cylinder engine that makes 4.5 horsepower and around 3 pound-feet. Now, this may be a little too low for most of y’all, but the scooter is strictly for commuting. And that, it can do all day long, thanks to its epic claimed fuel efficiency of 188 miles per gallon.

Meanwhile, as you'd expect, the scooter’s underpinnings are fairly basic and comprise an underbone chassis, telescopic forks, a monoshock, and 10-inch tires at both ends. While all this is acceptable, the scooter only packs drum brakes, which is a slight bummer.

To counter this, the Vino only weighs 176 pounds, so you wouldn’t exactly need very strong brakes to stop you.

2022 Yamaha Vino Price

This is where the Vino makes perfect sense. Priced at just $1771 (converted from Japanese prices), the scooter offers amazing value for the money and comes across as the perfect alternative to a high-end bicycle.

Yamaha is yet to bring the 2022 Vino to the USA, though, mainly because this isn’t exactly an ideal market for a scooter like this. But for what it’s worth, it surely seems perfect for grocery or gym commutes.
