Two Zero SR/S have now joined the Police force in the Swiss city of Lausanne. They replace old gas-powered BMWs

Climate change is now a more prominent issue than ever and it’s about time we begin doing our part to reduce its impact. This is also the message the city police of Lausanne in Switzerland wants to give its citizens by switching to electric motorcycles for patrolling

Yes, you read that right. The local police force has replaced two of its gas-powered BMW patrol bikes with all-electric Zero SR/S motorcycles, thus urging its citizens to do the same.

The two Zero SR/S bikes will serve in the city’s police squadron and have been chosen because they are lighter, quieter, and easier to handle than the older BMW bikes. Plus, these bikes will be easier on the pocket too, considering how gas prices are only set to increase in the future.

Plus, it has a juicy 110 horsepower and 140 pound-feet electric motor with a claimed top speed of 124 mph

And before you say the limited range will be an issue, let us tell you that the Zero SR/S boasts a claimed city range of 156 miles, which is more than sufficient for patrolling or even police chases. Add to this, the bike’s rapid charging system (capable of charging from 0 to 95% in under one hour) means, range anxiety takes a back seat here.

The city police of Lausanne has added two Zero SR/S electric bikes to its fleet, one of which is laden with accessories

For added utility, one of the two bikes was given a full-blown police makeover comprising a signal system, crash bars, panniers, top box, and a taller visor. Meanwhile, a special livery comprising the police force’s colors top all of this off.

These police bikes replace the older gas-powered BMW models which were heavier, costlier to run, and louder in comparison

In addition to this, the bike boasts high-spec Showa Big Piston Separate Function Forks at the front, Showa monoshock, JJuan brakes, and sticky Pirelli Rosso III rubber, making the package quite premium.

Not to forget, you also get a 5-inch TFT display, riding modes, smartphone connectivity, over-the-air updates, and a dedicated Cypher III operating system.

Lastly, the Zero SR/S is available on sale in the USA priced at $20,595.
