Worst Biker Movies of All Time, Part 1

Easy Rider - The Way Back (2012)

What is it about some film people who feel the need to desecrate an iconic movie with either a remake or an attempt to tell a back-story to that movie? What is it that makes them think it's necessary?

Alongside On Any Sunday, Easy Rider is the movie most often placed at Number 1 in lists of motorcycling movies. Unlike On Any Sunday, Easy Rider was a work of fiction, telling the story of two riders who set out to look for the American Dream but failing to find it, a commentary on the counter-culture among the youth of America that was appearing at the time.

Easy Rider featured great performances from not only the actors - Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper (who directed) and Jack Nicholson (Oscar nominated for his rôle) but also from the bikes - Captain America and Billy Bike - while the soundtrack was another strong factor in the movies' success.

And there the story should have finished but it didn't thanks to one Phil Pitzer, who purchased the sequel rights to Easy Rider. What he made, however, was a prequel movie that told the story of the family of Wyatt "Captain America" Williams from the 1940s to the present day.

What it actually did was take any magic from the original and smash it to pieces, with terrible dialogue and a creaky storyline. US film critic Leonard Maltin called the film a bomb and has described it as a "staggeringly bad attempt to cash in on the iconic original" and that it is "poor on all accounts."
