The Motor Press Guild (MPG), America's largest professional automotive media association, will hear how motorcycle sales are booming and what's hot at its first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January 9, 2007. Ty van Hooydonk of Discover Today's Motorcycling will provide an overview of one of the fastest growing segments of the powersports business -- motorcycling, which has experienced 13 consecutive years of rising new unit sales in America.

Discover Today's Motorcycling is a consumer outreach program of the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) and information resource on and about motorcycling for the media and the general public.

The January 9 meeting will hear how motorcycle trends, demographics, two-wheel technology, customizing, racing and the transfer of racing technology to everyday machines has sparked the growth in the industry. Van Hooydonk plans to review the various types and categories of motorcycles, from cruisers to sport bikes, and dirt bikes to scooters. Attendees will also get a sneak-peek of new 2007 and some early release 2008 models.

Van Hooydonk is currently Director of Product Communications for Discover Today's Motorcycling and has been with the organization since 2001. He began his motorcycle industry career at Cycle News and then Cycle Magazine where he served as news editor for several years. Van Hooydonk has been an avid motorcycle rider on- and off-road since 1969. He only owns seven motorcycles, "because that's as many as will fit in the garage and house."
