The Sportcity concept was unique and original, and revolutionised the approach to large wheel scooters. With 15 inch wheels, sporty engines and a superbly rigid frame, the Sportcity immediately established its ability to combine the comfort of a large wheel scooter with the nippy handling of a small wheel sports scooter, turning daily commuting into a great opportunity for enjoyable, fun riding.

The Sportcity was compact, agile, and beautifully finished, with a superb level of equipment and a sporty yet elegant look. Its unbeatable equipment to price ratio and its ability to play the twin roles of urban commuter and dynamic sports scooter led to instant success. The scooter riding public is quick to spot a bargain and the Sportcity 125 and 200 rapidly became two of Aprilia’s best selling scooters.

Now the time is right for the sportiest large wheel scooter on the market to move on to the next stage in its evolution. More power, better acceleration, and higher performance mean more fun and more active safety in fast traffic. The ride has become more dynamic yet more relaxed than ever, in keeping with the already successful Sportcity tradition. And now, riders also benefit from a new triple disc braking system and a new engine that is more ecological and respectful of our environment. The SPORTCITY 250 i.e. gives you all this and more. The new 250 i.e. is the first compact large wheel scooter powered by a 250 cc engine with electronic fuel injection, a solution that establishes it as a true leader in engine technology. Amazingly, all this has been achieved without affecting the Sportcity’s excellent quality to price ratio, which remains one of the model’s most appreciated selling points.

The highly original SPORTCITY 250 i.e. features an elegant, dynamic design and the very latest, advanced technology. The SPORTCITY 250 i.e. is Aprilia’s answer to those who want a practical, safe but agile scooter able to make light work of city traffic while also ensuring excellent rider comfort and impressively low running costs.
What is more, the new SPORTCITY 250 i.e. is designed to broaden your horizons, taking you far beyond the city and into longer range travel. Here is a scooter that simply cannot be described as just another ‘means of transport’. Even if your main requirement remains urban commuting, the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. ensures that you can commute in style and enjoy the sort of sporty ride for which all Aprilia motorcycles are famous.

There’s no doubt about it, the styling of the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. is impressive indeed. Clean, essential, yet elegant lines cunningly turn this powerful, robust machine into a style object that is a constant source of visual pleasure. The level of finish is now more refined than ever, thanks to a two-tone seat and chrome plated crash bars, plus many other details, including instruments with dedicated graphics and painted surrounds. The chrome edged leg shield and the aggressive looking double front light unit give the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. a personality worthy of the Aprilia name.

The analog-digital instrumentation includes a rev counter and a multifunctional display, just as on the latest superbikes. Display functions are controlled directly from the handlebars for maximum safety.

The new, large seat provides comfort to spare even when riding two up, thanks to an ergonomic design that provides maximum support for rider and passenger. It is upholstered in a new non-slip textile to stop you sliding forward under braking, improving not just comfort but safety too.

The SPORTCITY 250 i.e. also boasts a large and perfectly flat platform for maximum comfort and extra load carrying capacity. The platform narrows intelligently under the rider’s legs to allow riders to get both their feet quickly, easily, and firmly on the ground.
The generously dimensioned leg shield provides excellent weather protection, with two vents that deliver warm air from the radiator to keep the rider’s legs warm in winter when used in conjunction with the optional Aprilia leg cover.
The practical luggage rack incorporates robust passenger grab handles and can accept a top box to increase carrying capacity.

Load carrying capacity is one of the fundamental factors in the purchase of this type of scooter. Thanks to a great deal of effort in the design phase and an intelligent use of space, the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. is small on the outside but large on the inside. Its compact size and large wheels in no way reduce the amount of space available to the rider, who benefits from a larger than ever under-seat storage compartment, big enough to hold a jet helmet with visor plus other personal effects besides. Neither has the creation of this massive space led to any reduction in ergonomics or control: seat height remains just 815 mm.
Clever use of space has also enabled Aprilia to build a closed, lockable storage compartment into the rear of the leg shield. This even contains a practical power socket for charging your mobile phone.

The SPORTCITY 250 i.e.’s chassis makes full use of Aprilia’s vast experience in manufacturing powerful, high performance scooters.
Special care has been taken at the design stage to ensure that the frame maintains excellent rigidity even without the conventional central tunnel.
The frame is made from high strength tubular steel, and is designed to give excellent torsional rigidity and strength. This rigid, efficient frame gives the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. a superior ride and the sort of sports handling that Aprilia is famous for.

The hydraulic fork uses 35 mm stanchions for precision control and excellent comfort over even the roughest road surfaces. The fork has a wheel travel of 100 mm, just the job for tackling city cobblestones, holes and manhole covers.

The engine and transmission assembly also acts as swing arm. Suspension is provided by two rear shock absorbers. Spring preload is adjustable for maximum efficiency under all load and road conditions. Rear wheel travel is 80 mm, more than enough to smooth out even the roughest surfaces.

The SPORTCITY 250 i.e. is equipped with 15 inch wheels and large, high profile tubeless tyres (120/70 at the front and 130/80 at the rear). Rolling diameter is therefore equivalent to that of a 16 inch tyre but the ability to absorb shocks from rough road surfaces is far better, ensuring a superbly smooth ride.
In conjunction with the excellent frame, this intelligent choice of tyres gives the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. excellent stability and the sort of intuitive feel that makes it a piece of cake to ride even for novices.

The brakes are another of the strong points of the SPORTCITY 250 i.e.. The new system features triple discs for far shorter stopping distances and far greater active safety. Even inexperienced riders will have no trouble in pulling up well ahead of trouble. At 90 km/h the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. takes just 2.7 seconds to come to a full stop. The front brakes feature two 260 mm discs and floating calipers with two parallel pistons. The rear disc is a 220 mm unit with single piston caliper.

Engine technology is another major plus point for the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. Its new electronic fuel injected engine is state of the art on the scooter scene. Powerful, flexible, and extremely low on emissions and consumption, this 250 cc single cylinder unit is perfect for the job in hand. Developing 22.5 HP at 8,000 rpm with 21 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm, the engine delivers standard-setting performance. It also enables the Sportcity to function as a fun to ride sports scooter not only in town centres but on fast urban ring roads too. And the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. respects the environment wherever it goes, being one of the few scooters to conform to Euro 3 emission control standards.

Finally, miserly fuel consumption and a generous 9 litre tank give the SPORTCITY 250 i.e. great autonomy.
